Blanca Santander


Formally from Peru, Blanca Santander lives in Seattle, Washington. For National Hispanic Heritage Month, Barnes & Noble’s Booksellers selected Blanca as their feature artist in September 2009 and again in 2010 and 2011. Recently the United States Census Bureau commissioned twelve illustrations from her for use in books, posters, and calendars to reach out to the millions of people in the Northwest United States region about the importance of filling out the Census. In her native Peru she illustrated for UNICEF, FAO-HOLLAND, COTESU, and other nonprofit organizations, winning 1st Prize in a national contest sponsored by FAO-Holland-INFOR. Notably, her illustrations have being used by major publishers and with many authors of children’s books. In 2009, Ms. Santander won 1st Prize in a contest from National Hispana Leadership Council of Washington DC. Her heritage and energy resonate in the use of color and magical themes to delight children and the young at heart. She is is very active in the local art scene in Seattle and contributes to many cultural events.
